Message from President
The mission statement of ABWA expresses the general goals of an ABWA chapter:
·Increase the business acumen of its members;
·To improve the earning power of its members;
·To assist members in securing employment
·Advance members in a social, business and educational way
·And to assist women in their community to better themselves through personal and
professional development ABWA is so dedicated to these goals that the National Bylaws (Article 5, Section 1) state that a requirement of ABWA membership is to abide all provisions of the bylaws, rules, policies and procedures of the Association that support those goals.
That is why it is incumbent on chapter leadership, that is, your Executive Board, to
periodically review our chapter’s focus on our progress toward the ABWA goals listed above and to provide two-way communication with you on that progress.
This month is the first board meeting of the new chapter year. Your board will begin the
cyclical process of examining our vision of the future we strive for as well as how we will work toward that ideal. This cyclical process continues with constructing our annual plan to fulfill our ABWA mission and to realize our chapter’s vision.
Your input to these efforts is critical and will be solicited. We will have more information
exchange about this process in the business portion of each chapter meeting, beginning with the September meeting.

Happy Anniversary to Us
September 22 nd is the big day.......
According to https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/sept/22/
This is also: American Business Womens Day
History of American Business Women’s Day
American Business Women’s Day honors the role women play in shaping the business world in the United States. It began with the founding of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) on September 22, 1949.
A woman named Hilary Bufton Jr. helped start the organization in Kansas City, Missouri. She believed women needed more chances to connect, learn, and grow in their careers. The ABWA brought women together from all types of jobs and industries.
Over time, the idea gained support. More people saw the value of recognizing working women and their contributions to the economy.
In 1983 and 1986, Congress passed resolutions to officially recognize the day. Then, in 1986, President Ronald Reagan signed a formal proclamation. That action made the celebration more visible across the country.
The day doesn’t just honor success - it also reminds people of the work still needed to support equality.
From boardrooms to small shops, women continue to move forward, often facing challenges with strength and creativity.
American Business Women’s Day celebrates that spirit. It’s a moment to pause, reflect, and cheer for the progress made - and the potential still ahead.
